SleepEasy® & StressHelp Education is the life work of renowned sleep therapist, counsellor and educator Brenda Doherty.

How did we start?

Brenda suffered and conquered her own sleep problems in the 1990's.  She developed a powerful, natural approach to sleep improvement drawing on her knowledge, skills and wealth of experience as a qualified clinical practitioner in remedial, deep tissue bodywork, holistic counselling, healing polarity therapy with the six valuable years lived within a yogic and then Buddhist forest monastic environment.

 

Her natural self-healing approach was shared with her clients and soon they too were reporting excellent results.

 

It was clear that a stepped program needed to be constructed and the SleepEasy® and StressHelp programs were born.  For over two decades thousands of struggling insomniacs have been taught how to sleep better and stress less via her clinic, CDs and workshops.

 

By the time clients found my clinic they had usually tried many therapies and remedies but their sleep problems were not going away.
My SleepEasy work is different and so effective as it addresses core drivers within the body and mind that are seldom, if ever, discussed when seeking help. Also I teach my unique SleepEasy Technique that quietens the busy mind when settling for sleep and, importantly, clients are supported to tap in to and build their own natural ability for sleep recovery. We often underestimate our capacity in this regard.
It is wonderful to share clients stories as they steadily return to better sleep sometimes after just one or two appointments.

 

More About Brenda

With formal training in wholistic counselling, clinical hypnotherapy, anatomy and physiology, remedial bodywork, polarity therapy, business management and education Brenda's work is beautifully complemented by great interest in researching and understanding healing and the human energy field.


In 1982 Brenda's passion for exploring the wholistic dimensions of mind/body interconnectedness lead her on a solo journey throughout Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Burma, Nepal and India.  During this period she met many highly respected teachers including: Krishnamurti – one of the world's greatest Eastern philosophers, and Mother Teresa.  On this journey Brenda took up the extraordinary opportunity to work with Mother Teresa at her House of Dying in Calcutta.

 

For six years (1985-1991) Brenda undertook formal training in yoga postures, breathing, relaxation and meditation, as an initiated swami with Satyananda Yoga.  At this time Brenda held the responsible position of Director of Canberra and New Zealand schools.  

 

From this training Brenda gained a thorough understanding experience of correct breathing, stretching and flexibility practices and accessed deep insights into relaxation/meditation practices in connection to the subtle underlying influences of the ebb and flow of energy and the sleep/wake cycle.

 

Brenda also trained in intensive, silent meditation practices within the Buddhist forest monastery tradition at Bodhinyanarama Monastery, Stokes Valley, New Zealand.  Practices included all night sitting meditations, walking meditations and Buddhist chanting.
