Keeping your sanity and health when Christmas tasks and celebrations swirl around you sure can feel daunting.

Racing around getting those gifts, attending the office/neighbours Christmas party, planning that super-duper Christmas lunch, and all that shopping involved to prepare for the lunch.

And, somehow trying to find time to get a Christmas haircut for the kids and even one for yourself if you can squeeze yourself in.  Phew!

If you are feeling your sleep quality declining and stress levels rising …

The good news is you can soak up the Christmas happiness and experience the silent nights, peace and calm we are all singing about. And it’s not difficult.

Take a deep breath and roll in to Christmas.

Sound too simple?  Let me enlighten you.Taking a full breath slowly and correctly (instructions below) signals your parasympathetic nervous system to activate the relaxation responses within your body.

You can take a full breath wherever you are – standing in the Coles queue, waiting at the traffic lights, walking down the street, waiting for the bus, sitting at your desk, when watching television.

Quietly and unobtrusively take a smooth, deep, full breath and FEEL THE MAGIC.
Also feel –
MORE CENTERED
MORE FOCUSED
MORE STEADY
The parasympathetic response is immediate.

A full, deep breath done correctly is a function of your parasympathetic system. It is in charge of all the processes to do with rest, refreshment, maintenance, healing, quietening the mind . . .and sleep.
As you go about your Christmas celebrations and business tune in from time to time and take a full breath. You will sense coming back in to your own skin and notice your mind settling and feel better focused on the task in hand.

You have created an ‘oasis’ moment – a window of refreshment and calm amid the hurly-burly around you.

Nothing esoteric or folksy about this. It is pure anatomy.

Here are some tips on taking a deep breath correctly.
IN BREATH
Use the nostrils.
Smoothly and slowly is the key.
Start the in-breath and allow the solar plexus to gently rise (located just below the lower ribs)
Keep breathing in and let the lower rib area expand
Keep breathing in let the upper chest gently rise.
OUT BREATH
Use the nostrils.
Smoothly and slowly start to breath out in exactly the same order as your in breath. i.e. Relax the solar plexus area, then the lower rib area and lastly the upper chest.

Pause and do a full breath right now.
Go on. It’s easy.  It can be Christmas transforming.

If you’re not sure on the subtilties of taking a full breath correctly then come and see me sometime in the New Year. I will help you understand clearly and simply this skill and you will soon be back on track with great breathing.

So, roll on Christmas.

Keep the ease and enjoy better sleep, better everything by consciously connecting to nature’s gift to you – breathing.

Christmas blessings and happiness to you.
